After months of waiting, I finally know exactly where in France I’ll be posted. The letter arrived while I was in BC for my 10-year high school reunion; my mum valiantly tried to read it to me over the phone, so I could at least get the town’s name. Now that I’m back in Winnipeg, I have the letter in my hot little hands, and can say that as of the end of September, I’ll be living in Sceaux, a town of approximately 19,000 people. It’s just to the southwest of Paris, in the Hauts-de-Seine region.
According to its Wikipedia entry (see my Blogroll, to the right), the town is famous for its château (pictured above), and its pretty streets lined with chocolate shops and bakeries. Unfortunately, housing there is quite expensive, costing more than some areas of Paris! Luckily, there may be on-campus housing available through my schools, which would be considerably cheaper than renting an apartment.
Which brings me to the schools… I will be teaching in two schools: one junior high (3 hours per week) and one senior high (9 hours per week). Judging by their addresses, they are both situated on the same campus, which is handy. And with only 12 hours of teaching time per week, I will be left with lots of time to explore my new home.
There is still much to do: filling out documents, applying for my visa, gathering teaching materials to bring along, sorting out bank accounts both here and in France… But I already feel much better just knowing where I’m going. Now I can get down to business…
